Associated Press: Crews Race to Build Up Levee to Aid Iowa Town:
Workers are racing to protect an Iowa town from the floodwaters of the Missouri River by adding several feet of dirt to a temporary levee. The situation grew worse when the river punched through a second levee, the town's main protection.
Missouri River flooding is forcing dams to release 150,000 cubic feet of water per second as the region braces for spilling waters and more rain on the way. The AP's Robert Ray has the story.
As flood waters recede, farmers in the Mississippi Delta are among the hardest hit. Their damages from the historic flood could reach into the millions of dollars.

As backwater flooding begins to encroach on the area, the mandatory evacuation order for the Butte Larose, Louisiana, area was reinstated Tuesday. The Atchafalaya River is expected to rise several more feet.
Evacuations that were supposed to become mandatory today in one Louisana town have been put on hold, after officials said the river that's threatening Butte LaRose might not get as high as feared.
For those in the path of waters let loose by the Morganza spillway, a tense waiting game has begun. Butte Larose, a small community in Louisiana, is almost empty of residents and most homes have been boarded up.
