KUNAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan, Karl Eikenberry, paid a visit to the Kunar provincial government offices in Asadabad, June 1, meeting with Gov. Fazlullah Wahidi and his staff before attending a graduation ceremony for the Kunar Construction Center.

There was a significant increase in the business activity on the streets of Asadabad compared to his last visit, and strong indicators of huge economic growth in Kunar’s outlying districts as well, Eikenberry said.

Coalition Forces Help Improve Afghanistan's Agriculture Business

MARJAH, Afghanistan - As much as 85 percent of Afghanistan’s economic activity is made up of agricultural enterprises in the Helmand and Nimroz provinces. This impressive economic stature makes these areas attractive opportunities for coalition forces to develop and promote independent agricultural growth.

With the help of the local government and co-operative members, mostly farmers, coalition forces have begun the planning needed to develop better agricultural processes. It began in Marjah, with a groundbreaking ceremony for a packing facility, May 29.

Brother and Sister Reunited in Afghanistan

KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan - When Sgt. Judy Hunziker, a maintenance administration clerk with Marine Attack Squadron 513, last saw her brother, she was on pre-deployment leave in the comfort of her hometown of Colorado Springs, Colo.

As with any military goodbye, it could have been anyone’s guess as to when the siblings would see each other again. But fate, and in this case the U.S. military, had that particular moment planned.

Hunziker and her brother George, a U.S. Army sergeant who serves as an infantryman with the 2nd Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division, reunited at Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan, May 30.

In Afghanistan, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project to train, manufacture and install micro-hydropower plants in isolated Afghan villages is slowly transforming the culture of Afghans and putting them on the grid. It’s about flipping on the switch at the lowest level of governance and enabling them as a people to change their lives and enhance their ability to follow through.
